About Central Legal

Central Legal AI is an AI-driven law-tech platform designed to centralise, structure, and enhance access to Zambian legal resources. The platform responds to a long-standing structural challenge within Zambia’s legal ecosystem: the fragmentation of statutes, case law, regulatory instruments, and legal commentary across multiple, often inaccessible sources, which undermines efficiency, legal certainty, and access to justice.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate ML/AI Engineer with a strong background in Full-Stack Web Development (specifically Laravel) to assist in building and deploying next-generation legal tech applications. This role offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between complex algorithms and user-friendly interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

AI & Machine Learning: Assist in the design, training, and deployment of machine learning models for natural language processing (NLP) and document automation specific to legal data.
Web Development: Develop and maintain robust web applications using the Laravel framework (PHP) and modern frontend technologies.
Full-Stack Integration: Seamlessly integrate AI/ML backends with frontend web interfaces to create a cohesive user experience.
Cloud Deployment: Collaborate with the team to deploy scalable applications on cloud platforms.
Data Management: Work on data processing pipelines to clean, structure, and label legal datasets for training.

Requirements

Must-Haves:

ML/AI Skills: Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and Scikit-Learn. Understanding of NLP frameworks (e.g., SpaCy, Hugging Face).
Full Stack Skills: Strong knowledge of PHP and the Laravel framework. Experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL and RESTful APIs.
Frontend Basics: Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Vue.js or React is a plus).
Problem Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Added Advantage (Nice to Haves):

Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure (e.g., EC2, S3, or GCP Compute Engine).
DevOps: Familiarity with Docker or CI/CD pipelines.
Legal Tech: Previous exposure to legal document processing is a plus but not required.
